History/Background: The story of a Dragoon.
Noteworthy Positive Characteristics:
Honest: Aranea has no reason for lying about what she is doing. Just because she is a mercenary doesn't mean that she needs to lie about things. Lying could cause a lot more problems and she probably wouldn’t have the loyalty of Biggs and Wedge, her two most trusted followers. She also has no issues voicing her concerns about the Empire's practices, even though she was born there. She also openly states her distrust of Aryden and that she doesn't like the research into Daemons and Magitek. She also tells Prompto about how torn up Noctis was when he fell off of the train and that he should rejoin them instead of just sitting around feeling bad for himself. She also meant it when she told him that she would leave him behind if he kept feeling sorry for himself.
Free Spirited: She doesn't let anyone tell her how to live her life and she encourages others to do the same. This also means that she's not afraid to flirt while in the middle of a fight. She tells flirts with Noctis when they first met, calling him a cutie during the battle. She also doesn’t finish the battle since she wasn’t getting paid after a certain time. She also doesn’t really obsess over birthright and rank, preferring to be spoken to in a more casual manner. She also talks to Noctis and the others in a casual manner as well, only using Noctis’ rank to poke a bit of fun of him, such as saying that he needed to watch his ‘Kingly ass”. She's also not above flirting with anyone as long as they're confident in themselves.
Strong Leader: Aranea is a strong leader and is able to get the respect of anyone who fights with her. She commands respect, but also respects those who work for her as well. She’s a very capable fighter, since she holds the rank of commodore and has soldiers to fight under her. Even though she has known Biggs and Wedge since she was a teenager, they wouldn’t still be following her this many years later if she wasn’t a strong leader. Biggs and Wedge have good things to say about Aranea when Noctis and the others talk to them and will fight with her regardless of which side of the war she decides to fight on. They also follow her when she defects and decides to help others and hunt daemons. She also refuses to use Magitek soldiers in her unit, instead preferring to use humans.
Noteworthy Negative Characteristics:
Unclear Loyalties: Due to being a mercenary, Aranea's loyalties can be rather questionable. For the right price she will fight for anyone. Even though she holds rank in Niflheim's army, she is still just a mercenary. There are some in the Empire that don’t quite trust her and she’ll only fight for however long she is getting paid, as seen when she first meets Noctis and the others and leaves before the fight is finished, stating that she didn’t get paid for ‘overtime’. Also, while searching for a certain ore she expresses her distrust of the Empire and how she might start hunting daemons since there was good money as a hunter. She actually does leave the Empire after finding out more about their Magitek research and eventually becomes a hunter during the time when Noctis disappears.
Takes no crap: Aranea doesn't take crap from anyone. Her straightforward nature can make it difficult for some people to work with her, but it also means that she's able to snap some people out of a funk that they may be in. It also means that she won't hesitate to fight people or leave them behind. While it was harsh, she flat out told Prompto that she would leave him behind if he didn’t make up his mind and stop feeling sorry for himself while they were exploring a Magitek facility after he was thrown off the train that he was traveling on. She really would have left him behind if he hadn’t gotten his act together. She wasn’t going to babysit someone who couldn’t take care of himself.
Blunt/To the point: Aranea doesn't skirt around issues. She'll get straight to the point of a conversation without hashing words or sugar coating things. She openly expresses her dislike of Ardyn and the new Emperor of Nifilheim. She openly tells Prompto that he should rejoin his friends and she bluntly tells him that if he doesn’t make up his mind or falls behind she will leave him behind. She won’t babysit someone who can’t make up his mind, but he has to make his decisions on his own. She also speaks plainly about how she would become a daemon hunter because there was good money in it, not because she wanted to help others. She's not above criticizing people that she's helping or showing her distrust of things and people if she doesn't like the way they're doing things.
